In this article we are going to see the How To Make Menu Items In WP To Open In New Tab
The Menu items can be added or open in new tab in a simple way. We can do it in following few steps.
Login into WP Dashboard -> Appearance -> Menus as shown in figure.
Now we get a screen, where we can select the menus or we can create a new one. Provide the Menu name if you are creating the new menu. Also, we have “Menu Structure” to add pages in the menu by adding items from the left column. Only after the menu creation the pages can be added. It is described as shown in the figure.
The pages we need to add in the menu will be viewed as the drop-down list box below the menu which we created and comes under the “Menu Structure”. We can add as many pages as we required and these pages can be ordered as we preferred as shown in this figure below.
This ordering is done very easily by dragging. It can be done as per alphabetic order or by searching order. By the same way, we can also make the page as subitem by holding the mouse and dragging. It is done as shown in the figure below.
In “Menu Setting” we have checkbox list for auto adding pages and for Theme location. Once the menu is created we can add the pages into it. Select the checkbox “Primary menu” in Theme location which is shown in the figure below.
Now to make the menu open in the new tab click on to the “Screen Opti on” drop-down list box which is available in the top right corner of the same page which is seen in the image below.
Here we get two kinds of options, which are “show on screen” and “show advanced menu properties”. These are used to design the menus. Some of the checkboxes are marked by default. Now additionally we need to mark the “Link Target” under “Show Advanced Menu Properties” which is described in the figure below.
After this process, we could able to see more options by clicking the drop-down box of the page which is under the “Menu Structure”. In this drop-down box mark the “Open link in a new window/tab” checkbox. We can click this checkbox for every single page as we needed. Finally, save the menu by clicking “Save Menu”. This process is shown in the figure below.
Now in WordPress Dashboard our pages will be displayed and shown in the image.
Click on to the single page, (if “Open link in a new window/tab” checkbox is marked for that particular page) it will be opened in the new tab. If that checkbox is not marked then it will not be opened in the new tab as shown in the figure below.
Thus, the Menu items can be opened in the new tab in a simple way.
