SEMRush vs Similar Web – Let’s Talk About Their Features
With both SEMrush and SimilarWeb adopting a similar Modus operandi, the real differences come down to their key inner features, their unique quirks, if you will. Below you can find a total, “in-depth” breakdown of the same.
Let’s begin;
SEMRush vs SimilarWeb – The Basic Differences
As an SEO analyzing tool, they both take different approaches: with SimilarWeb going full-on as a competitive analysis tool, with tools allowing you to keep an eye on your, as well as your competitors, businesses overall, track possible SEO opportunities, and helps to improve SEO decision making and strategizing. SEMrush, on the other hand, relies on a more holistic suite of tools for handling competitor analysis. It offers much of the same perks as SimilarWeb, but also extends its helpfulness to other niches as well.
With both of them, you can gain deep insights into what your rivals are doing, their top-performing keywords, backlinks, etc…when it comes to marketing; however, SEMrush edges past with its prowess whereas SimilarWeb just lacks it. Do you know what else SEMrush lacks? A free variant – it’s not offered at all. With SimilarWeb, you can enjoy their tool-free for three months, and after that with limitations.
With that, we have covered the more obvious differences.
Now, on to the big ones;
1) SEMRush vs SimilarWeb – The Interface & Quality Of UX
Right of the bat, SimilarWeb charges ahead here with its gorgeous, simple to use interface. The navigation is intuitive, and the interface itself was quite straightforward. Whether you are an expert or a beginner, you’ll not have any trouble. SEMRush UI is pretty good too. But compared with SimilarWeb, it’s just isn’t there yet.
With SEMrush, everything is labeled, which is not the case with SimilarWeb. Then again, the colorful UI did grow on us fast. Is it cluttered? Yes – but they have executed the design in a way that feels new, refreshing even.
Overall, SimilarWeb wins this round by a mile. Sure, it needs some getting used to. But beyond that, many will agree it’s the better choice.
2) SimilarWeb vs SEM Rush– Competitive Analysis
Long considered one of the easiest ways to breathe “new life” into your SEO game when it comes to competition analysis, we’re happy to report that both SEMrush and SimilarWeb excels pretty awesomely in this regard.
For starters, SEMrush rules the roost here with its wide range of organic research tools that can spell out your rival’s SEO strategies in an instant. It tracks, analyses, and delivers data on your rival’s backlinks, top keywords, ranks, etc… making it easier for you to rip-off their winning SEO formulae and use it as your own.
With SimilarWeb, you’ll get all of the above & then some. With built-in domain comparison, find how your site fares against competitors. It can find trending keywords, track your rivals ranking, and decrypt their traffic rates. Heck, it even scans your audiences too, allowing you to find prospective publishers, great affiliates, traffic, and retargeting lists more easily.
Overall, when it comes to competition analysis, they both perform pretty good, though SimilarWeb clearly has the upper hand with its more robust analyzing perks. Other than that, you’ll do very awesome with either one.
3) SimilarWeb vs SEMRush – Keyword Analysis
With keyword research, the SEMRush vs SimilarWeb matchup again proved to be a very spectacular battle, with both equally proving their mettle. With everything from CPC, Volume, difficulty, popularity, and more laid out (with filters, no less), both tools make it super easy to find awesome keywords for all your SEO strategies. Just enter the SEED keyword and voila! You’ll be treated to thousands of top keywords in a jiffy.
Till this, everything is the same with both – but onwards, especially with keyword difficulty SEMRush vs SimilarWeb, they are very different beasts.
With SEMrush, Keyword tracking was a better experience, as it tracked and updated new keywords every day, unlike Similar webs weekly updates. And since it had a global outreach, the keywords were far more versatile too. Another factor in SEMRush favor is the sheer accuracy of its keyword suggestions.
SimilarWeb’s keyword analysis, for starters, is quite cut and dry. You get the familiar tropes like high volume lists, contextual suggestions, etc… kicking it up a notch; you can sort the keywords per difficulty, volume, traffic, etc… right from the dashboard. To top it off, it even helps you to find the right landing pages for your keywords.
As you can see, both SEMRush vs SimilarWeb are excellent in this regard. They both performed very well across the board.
Yup, let’s call this one a tie.
4) SEMRush vs SimilarWeb – Backlink And Its Analytics
Again, both SEMRush vs SimilarWeb has nailed this crucial factor of SEO as well. But overall, there’s a winner here. And its SEMrush. Don’t get me wrong! SimilarWeb has plenty of backlinking capabilities. But as far as execution went, we found SEMRush to be more polished – there is no lag at all while phishing backlinks.
Moreover, SEMrush opens the door for deeper insights into your sites current backlinks, their health, how to generate new ones, track your rivals top backlinks, their goodness, etc… making it a lot easier to rise through the SERP’s.
Yes, SimilarWeb too have all the above features – we know. But as far as reliability goes, SEMrush has knocked it out of the park.
5) SEMRush vs Similar Web – Social Media Analysis
No modern SEO tool will ever be complete without a good social media analysis features. And the guys at both SEMrush & SimilarWeb know that.
First, we have SEMrush. Taking a no-holds-barred approach, the built-in social media tracker allows not only managing and tracking your social media presence but also your competitors. You can demystify what they do on the SM, the contents they are posting, and their most effective SM practices, etc…- In other words, SEMrush offers nearly every critical metrics to boost all your campaigns on SEO.
In stark contrast, SimilarWeb doesn’t exactly have a social media SEO strategy. The furthest it offers as far as social media is traffic analysis. Still, you can do basic SM analysis like finding the traffic ratings associated with a specific site. Used correctly, the reports can disclose the total number of visits from social sources, the referred social pages, the corresponding traffic shares, and even potential marketing SM opportunities.
If the above review wasn’t clear enough, SEMrush wins these round hands down. SimilarWeb still has a long way to go here.
